“UCD Formula Student is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn and develop industry-related and real-world-applicable skills that are often underdeveloped from lecture-based learning alone. The mixture of interdisciplinary collaboration, technical skills required for design, and manual skills applied during manufacturing requires team members to be very versatile in their work. A project as wide-ranging as Formula Students poses many challenges to students, requiring them to show compromise, innovation and quite often – grit.
Bringing a project such as a formula-style race car from concept to actualisation is a mammoth task, and their success is a testament to their professionalism, ambition, and competency. In contrast to most other colleges in the competition, UCDFS is completely voluntary and runs in the students’ spare time, demonstrating their drive and commitment.
